Newbie, here - or at least potential newbie.  Lets see what happens this afternoon ...
I know that you will tell me  should buy a factory - but won't because of the frame colour!

Other bike is a Diavel - so going for an eclectic mix

......nothing wrong wi the R model an ahm wi u on the goldie lookin frame thing. but then again ahm biased  lookup1

Apart frae the leaky Ohlins forks and a splash o carbon theres no real difference in the bikes performancewise.

Ohlins rear shock helps a bits, as does the front 4 pot brakes.

Better rear shock,yes................nowt wrong with the brakes tho.

Purchase made
I will look out for a new shock , perhaps sometime in the future.  But TBH, compared the the Diavel one, it was great!

Brakes - what is the issue with the brakes.  They were fine

Evening All, Newbie Glenn here,
Been on Tuonozone upto now, didn't realise you guys were even out there but I notice there are some links between your forums..
Looking forward to chatting to you lot over the next few months/years.
Had my T2R for just over a year now and God help me I can't stop spending on it!.. So addictive. Next mod is a trip to MCT in Stowmarket on Thurs for them to fit my Ohlins shock (maxton spring) and a shimming and service of my front end- new springs if needed.
I'll then be repairing a bit of crash damage from chucking it at Snetterton this week.. Just a few scratches. Nothing too bad.. I picked it up then carried on destroying 'Blades around my local track.. What a hoot! smiley-laughing002.gif smiley-laughing002.gif smiley-laughing002.gif
So.. If anyone's got a good LHS titanium akro kicking about and/or link pipe, oil filler cover, gear lever, I'd be interested
Cheers Guys
Glenn (Norfolk,UK)

My name is Mike and I have a 2012 v4 Tuono. I just recently bought the bike and the first service maintenance is due. I need to change the oil and delete the wrench icon, but I don't know how to delete the wrench icon. I've seen a few different codes to enter. Does anybody know the right code? I know you go into the menu and pull up diagnostics and enter the code 12321. Scroll to reset and then hold button down, choose yes and then hold the button down again. I'm having a problem. Am I doing this the right way? Thanks, MIke.   urgh1

The thing is with the VTR is that once you have done the Regulator and fitted manual cct's the only thing you need to do is the 16k valve clearances it virtually is a 100% reliable bike, and so easy to do all the work needed your self, I have heard some "rumours" about Tuonos and that is what im here to see what I am about to get into.  scratching1

The only rumours I have heard is that the T's are a bit of a nagging beast a bit like my wife, ok 1 minute then a C@#t from hell the next, I have 6 months or so to get the real picture here so I wont drown in the "after expense"

thanks for the warm welcome, the first break down was the main harness shorting out and blowing the ign fuse , took all day to find the problem , the harness was touching on the fuel tank pump so when the tank was raised it was ok, when ridden it would touch and blow a fuse, as it was hard to see the chaffed wire, robbie.

Another nube sayin' hi.  I have an '08 I bought a few weeks ago and so far have bought a rear seat cowl & PUIG windscreen for it.  Next on the list (besides things like checking for the infamous brown connector, doing the air box mod, replacing the hose clamps, etc.) is a 15t front sprocket and sliders.  Speaking of sliders, what's the recommendation, frame, swing arm, axle or combination?  I'll probably only take it to the track once or twice, so I'm mainly looking for "regular" protection.  Thanks....

Welcome to the forum 2ch. yes sir
As for the sliders,I have R&G top and bottom frame protectors and some ebay specials for the axles.Click here. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APRILIA-RSV-RSVR-TUONO-SHIVER-DOROSURO-CRASH-MUSHROOMS-PROTECTORS-FRONT-AXLE-S2C-/231114292405?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item35cf7c3cb5)
I guess the frame mounted bungs offer the best protection,...the upper bungs for the radiator,...and the lowers stop the footrests/levers mashing into the frame.
Thankfully, mine are yet to be tested.

Hello fella's. I just thought I would post up a couple of pics of my Tuono. I have had it just coming up to 2 years now and It is starting to look how I want it to now. It has had a few bits and bobs threw at it but there is still plenty I want to do(wallet permitting that is...).
So far though a few of the additions are as follows...
RSVR shock with a new Ohlins spring,M4 Brembo calipers & custom lines(courtesy of Griff),Accosato QA throttle,HM quickshifter,Gilles rearsets, PC111 & custom remap,15-43 gearing,MSS bellypan and various carbon pieces,Oberon mirrors,Rizoma bars and Vtrec levers... I am sure there are some bits I have forgotten(its scary how much it all adds up to when you list it like that....) but I hope you all like it so far.

Keep an eye on the meet-ups section (or whatever it's called) we usually get to meet up for rides and beers a fair few times a year   happy88

Cheers Nige. I was umming & ahhing over which to get and was tempted by a factory or a white one which was for sale at my local shop,Forza Italia in Silverstone, but then I saw this,a 2008 model bike but not registered til 2011,just coming up to 1 year old at the time and the grand sum of 850 miles on the (mist free) clocks...I just couldn't resist.
Starting to think getting a Factory would have been a whole lot cheaper though what5
I do love the Diablo black scheme though, although the stealth scheme didn't foil the camera van last july...Got a nice magistrates court appearance in 2 weeks....ahhh the joys of motorcycling.

Post by: Paddedcell100 on February 09, 2014, 05:01:03 pm
I am reasonably relaxed about it now to be honest, I think it is going to be 6 points on top of the 3 I already have but there is the possibility of a short ban and I'm actually thinking that if I can keep it down to 3 or 4 weeks then that would be a pretty good result . It'd certainly leave me a bit more relaxed once the ban would be up...
Oh well, at least my suit still fits and I get a day off work out of it angel2..

Cheers Rico and thanks for the welcome.
 I'm sure it'll all go ok fella, it's just been a pain in the backside waiting for it all to get sorted . The police had 6 months to log the case with the courts or I would have got away with it and, lo and behold, they did it on the last day.... 1 more day and I would have been sorted ...talk about twisting the knife ... It may just have to be more trackdays than road riding for the rest of this year but I'm buggered if they will keep me off the bike tuono;

Title: Re: Say hello, its worth it.
Post by: Paddedcell100 on February 24, 2014, 06:27:22 pm
Hello again fella's... Had my appearance in the magistrate's court today, managed to avoid a ban but got another 6 points to go with the 3 ive already got slaphead;. , a nice little £475.00 fine to go along with it as well...What a shite day.
All for overtaking a poxy lorry and a couple of motors and  hitting 91 in a 60(on a dead straight, wide, clear road out in the middle of nowhere)...Apparently reaching such a "ridiculous" speed on the public highway was just beyond the pale and " if my tyre had burst at such a speed, the outcome would have been catastrophic...)....
Oh well, it could have been worse...fuck me,if  I had been caught once I was actually having a rip later on then it would have been some serious feet up time.
Anyway boys, hope you are all well, im off to stuff a Dominos down my mush.

Hello Gilo. I was kind of thinking a short ban may have been the best outcome but I'm reasonably happy I didn't get banned now, the 3 points I've already got are going in October and the 6 I got today are backdated to last July so at least I've already used up 8 months of them...

I'm just dragging any good news out of the whole situation to be honest but hey ho... I may have to see if I can pick up a DRZ400 or something for this summer just so I can have some fun on some proper back roads.

Right, I'm taking you up on your advice and the Ale's are getting cracked.
Catch you later Gilo.

Ive had my Gen 2 T for about 9 moths and in that time it has been wet, windy and shite so havent had much bonding time other than a track day at Snetterton 300 which was a hoot on the T, much better in fact than my old Blade.

Hope to meet up for a bit of banter and a ride out or two in the future (if any of you are from Essex).

Lee

Hi, I've joined the forum today.
I am getting my Tuono on the road again after 3 years laid up in the shed due to being made redundant.
It is away being serviced and getting new tyres, chains & sprockets, fork dustseal, etc.
I've also got to fix the front mudguard from when I moved the bike with the disc lock on it, DOH!
I'm putting Michelin Pilots on as they were cheap @ £161 a pair fitted inc Vat, got insured for £192 (comp, legals, clothing, injury), so just got to tax it when it comes back.
I've had the bike from new in 2002, before that I had a Suzuki TL1000S which gave me the bug for V twin engines.

Hi, my name is Mick and I have just treated myself to an 05 silver 14000 mile Tuono 1000, this is not my first Aprilia as I had an 05 RSV until a kind lady reversed over it and kept going as she thought it was a high kerb ( in a car park ???) I am selling my 06 Blade as I simply don't get the same buzz I did on a big twin. My face is aching with grinning from the ride home and I love it already! Don't get me wrong, the Blade is a fantastic bike but it's a little too sanitised and perfect for me. The Tuono however is very mechanical and raw which in my opinion is how a bike should feel, getting up early in the morning and letting it stretch it's legs a bit. Cheers for now, Mick

Welcome to the silliness. The average owner of  Tuono appears to be more interested in enjoying life, riding (rather than posing), having fun with mates (taking the piss), and generally having a good time. Experiencing Life. And there ain't no way better tae experience life (in our humble opinions) than in the saddle of a Tuono.

Grunting , blinking and squinting into the light, scratching my arse (and on the hunt for a bacon sarnie ) Sir Tinley emerges from the proto-slime of anonimity..

My 2003 Factory has a Frank Wrathall breathed on Cosworth be-decked mota. I've toured and trackdayed it to the hilt.
Half its 20k miles have been done at Oulton , Donington , Silverstone etc flat out. Its a stunning whoop whoop of a bike. I've owned it from new..as have three other Tuono riding gang members of the Track Day Twats.
Its never broken down, melted its clutch, or needed any serious work. Unlike my old SPS's which were utterly gorgeous to look at and and utterly wank to own.

But a new star shines in the night sky..its V4 light bathes me in prong-stiffening neediness. The Factory can be loved and admired and semi-retired while a younger brother takes up the mantle of Tarmac Shagger No1

But heres the dilemma.. a new  £12k 2014 APRC with comfy bumness and better boing-boing settings or ..
Get an £8K older model, and fit a gel seat, reserving the cash saved for strong beverages and ladies of negotiable morals?

Or do i ....horror or horrors try a KTM Tangerine Terror ( its a v twin lads , with 180bhp ..come on)

Title: Re: Say hello, its worth it.
Post by: FTM on May 10, 2014, 09:58:30 am
Gen 1 Tuono's are utterly reliable when ridden hard. It's when they sit in a garage all pampered and un-used they start to go wrong.

I'd go KTM but it's your money.

Track dayin ? I'd be thinking spare parts availability. Maybe a cheaper v4t and a bit of a spares stash and a power fridge full of wife beater ?
I got bored with mine though and got another v2.

Bloody thing was off the road for a few weeks with electrical gremlins, £450 and a new alarm/ other wiring issues later it's running fine.
Bought a new  uprated starter relay and was going to put it on today, only to find the new alarm is wired into the old one, so I daren't touch it!
Meant to be doing some paving (see photo) this weekend, but if it's sunny I'll be out to play whilst the wife's away!

Back brake pads worn out, that's a new one.
K B will be along to enlighten you regarding the speedo sensor.......

The speedo sensor is a pretty universal item on apes, get the part number off one of the dealers on here then check it out against all the others, ie- Falco-Capo etc.

Hello , Ted here.
Just bought a mistreated Tuono Gen 2 .
The mistreatment also involves a dealer in Cheshire who replaced the air filter when doing a service recently ( got the receipt , here ,what a joke) and didn't replace the air box lid !
By the way, i don't like the filth , but love loud exhausts .
Does this make me a bad man?

Hi, people of planet tuono, I come from a secret Kingdom called Seaton burn and I need your help, my chariot has a heedlight problem,  when I switch the ignition on the main beam flickers but doesn't light, if I press the high beam button and release it the same thing happens, if I do manage to get it working, as soon as I start the engine it goes out, it's a 2003 fighter and it's got me beat, any help would be much appreciated. Hi All , I'm a brand newbie , so new I'm yet to have me a set of tuono wheels !!! I recently crashed my buell 1125r (Gravel ) and have been paid 4k roughly .
I am after a tuono gen 2 as I rode one once and it was sublime. Was considering buying a rsv factory and modifying it to a tuono . Alternatively buying a v clean low miles blue or black tuono? Which would yall do. Resale value, turn offs etc. Each of the bikes I have looked at have sold pretty quick.
Many thanks for any responses .Lukas

Awrighty R Bro min, welcome

Forget even thinkin aboot choppin up an RSV........look for a decent Tuono Factory but ah doubt ye will pick one up for £4K.  Tuonos are now holdin their value very well due tae the current fresh interest in fast super nakeds.

£4K would get ye a pretty good R model and apart frae the sussies n carbon bling the bikes are pretty identical, doubt ye wid notice the difference in ride. Try tae go 2008 models onwards if ye can as there were a couple issues wi the early Gen 2 that were sorted oot wi the later models. Very rare though so not a worry if ye check before ye buy.

Also dinnae worry too much aboot mileage on a Tuono. The engines are solid and the build quality way better than ye wid think for an Italian bike.  Important tae find as much history about the bike as ye can as theres a few come and go on here.

Do yer homework on here as weel for what tae watch oot for and us fuds are aye here tae assist.  Theres a whole section and threads on the good n bad stuff.

http://www.tuonoworld.com/index.php?board=16.0

Most Tuono owners tho are well versed in their machines, its that sort o bike, and ye can tell a dodger easily enough.

Welcome R, you'll struggle to get a gen 1 factory for less than 5k. As Rico said Tuono's are holding value well. Standard bikes go well and you could always put on ohlins at a later date.

HI Jeff,
Do you live somewhere nice where we could all come round over Christmas to get away from our awful families and just "hang out" as the younger element might say. We would contribute to the heating costs and get some beers in.
Everybody will say they're up for it , then cancel at the last minute! (OUCH).

Hmm,..could be an oil filter issue. What filter do you use,...the long or short one? Some early T's were converted to the longer filter. If it has a domed filter cover,it should be a long one.
Also check the filter is fitted the right way round.

Nothing to worry about, it could just be the oil pressure switch getting old. If the light comes on when you're moving then I'd start to worry.
Welcome.

I had a great ride out yesterday went up north to Kawakawa in northland toilet spotting😳(Not in a George Michael way!!) Google Hundertwasser toilet Kawakawa very funky.... That trip has taken me up to my first service at 1000kms. I had everything thrown at me rain, VERY windy in parts and the odd stretch of crap road. She handled brilliantly very confidence inspiring I just love this machine..... On a side note I bought a transition pin lock visor for my Shoei (Shaky Burn rep) they are brilliant worth every penny or cent down here😉

Have fun out there and play safe😈

Good morning uk
Is it still Illegal to use radar detection over there??? We can use them sheep side so I was wondering if anybody on here has any experience with detectors type make etc???? Down here Adaptiv TPX seems to be the favourite as its specifically made for bikes.....

Any info would be welcome 😈

As far as I know,...yes they are still illegal in the UK.
To be honest,I haven't seen one for ages and I don't know anyone that has one. The cops tend to go more for a visible prescience these days, rather than hiding behind bushes, etc.

The cops here are sneaky little buggers unmarked cars, hiding at the end of overtaking lanes etc. there aren't many roadside cameras yet!! But they'll no dought come at some stage.... It's tricky staying at the speed limit when it's only 100km (62mph)😳

Orite mate. Sometime just rolling the bike forward makes it a tad easier to get neutral. It is hit n miss though with most big v twins I've found, you just get used to it.

Fair point on neutral being hard work

sometimes difficult to go from 1st to N
usually easier to go from 2nd to N instead
So....up into 2nd...then down into N
simples.  happy88

Hola,

Living in Hawaii and picking up my 2013 Tuono in a couple days. So jacked....

Does anyone know what size the speed bleeder valves go on this bike? I'm looking to pick some up and the folks at STG aren't sure whether they are the 8mm or 10mm size.

Thanks,

Booma

I am back - loads of IT issues over the last couple of months.

Work stopped access to anything they did not like.  My home PC died and had to be re-set from basics by PC word, even my I-pad got took of me (sort of a loan arrangement through work)

Any way - home PC is now fixed & the wife got me a I-pad type thingy.

Thanks for the prompt to get back on line Felix - it be interesting to see what's changed in the last few weeks.

I NEED SOME GUIDANCE AND QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
•Are they ALL with a ROTAX?
•Your favorite year(s)?
•Are there certain "problem years" to avoid?
•What is the benefit or drawbacks of the magnesium case covers?

I'm looking for a used model and only familiar with the 2005 that I've ridden with the all black scheme, small orange "R" triangle on the tank, and red forged wheels..it was owned by a shop in San Francisco and modded with Akro exhaust, Ohlin rear shock and steering dampener. She was well used, and pretty well loved with 43k and counting..I CAN ONLY AFFORD THE VTWIN FOR NOW.

Thanks!

Good morning all.  My name is unsurprisingly....John.

I bought a 2016 Tuono 1100RR last summer and prior to that owned a 1200 Caponord.  I've been a motorcyclist since I was a kid and always had a bike in the garage of one sort or another, I turned 60 last month so I think its fair to say I've logged up a few miles over the years.  A friend of mine who is also a member here suggested I have a look at this forum as we are both members on the AF1 site.   I'm looking forward to finding my way around like any other newbie so be gentle with me.  Cheers for now.   eat4 eat4
