Hi All!
Newbie Tuono Shopper Here.
I rode my friend's 2005 Tuono R and LOVED IT, and searching for my very own..

I NEED SOME GUIDANCE AND QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
•Are they ALL with a ROTAX?
•Your favorite year(s)?
•Are there certain "problem years" to avoid?
•What is the benefit or drawbacks of the magnesium case covers?

I'm looking for a used model and only familiar with the 2005 that I've ridden with the all black scheme, small orange "R" triangle on the tank, and red forged wheels..it was owned by a shop in San Francisco and modded with Akro exhaust, Ohlin rear shock and steering dampener. She was well used, and pretty well loved with 43k and counting..

I CAN ONLY AFFORD THE VTWIN FOR NOW.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

1st generation 2002-2005 is best. Upgrade the starter solenoid from the 50amp original to a 150amp one from a Yamaha, it's a straight swap. Fit a larger battery and check for corrosion inside the white barrel connector between the V of the engine and also the brown connector behind the right side panel under the seat. Twist throttle and go. All the first generation Tuonos use the bomb proof Rotax engine.

Mostly true. I remember their being a few little issues with the early gen2 ones that were sorted by 08? Same rules apply to any bike. Decent owner, bike looked after, good nick, mileage is accurate, service history, price etc.
